|twilightsdawne||09:11 pm - New to this community|
Hi, I found this community by doing an over 40 search. I am 43 and due to some health problems, and just plain not taking proper care of myself I have put on quite a bit of extra weight. I am hoping that I can get this excess weight off through a reasonable diet and exercise program. Will welcome any and all suggestions.

January 9th we started a program called Lighten Up. We keep a food diary and an exercise journal. The program concentrates on creating and maintaining a healthy life style. I need to loose weight to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. Any joiners? People do better on the buddy system.

|sky744||10:50 pm - Finally Changed My Lifestyle|
I do know what you mean about the challenges of losing weight when you're over forty. I have been on many diets over the years and always gained more back after each diet. Then I changed my lifstyle and cut out carbs, sugar, and salt. I just started eating more fish, (love salmon), eating fruits and vegetables that contain antioxidant vitamins and phytonutrients. I lost 40lbs. and have kept it off for four years.

I just can't get over how much harder it is to lose weight once you're over 40. I used to be able to manage my weight so well. Now none of my old tricks work any more. Anyone else out there finding this the case?

|ohhhkelly||12:39 pm - Want to keep track of what you're eating?|
Hello everyone. I just started a community (for all ages) and I'm hoping to get some lovely ladies to join and make it wonderful.
It's called foodtrackers and it's for everyone who's trying to lose weight. I find that having supportive people around to help you make the right decisions about food is very important for one's self-esteem, and if you agree, maybe you should join. If not, that's ok, too.
Like I said, it's not age-restrictive, and it's for all sexes (although I'm sure it will be mainly female). It's friends-only.
Most posts are about what you have eaten today, how many calories you've consumed and anything pertaining to the goal of weightloss. A lot of discussions will be questions asked, and having your peers answer. A common question will be, "How much calories/grams of fat/sodium does _____ have?" A lot of us count calories, and having knowledge at your fingertips is a good way to make sure you stick to your goals.
So if this sounds anything like something you'd be interested in joining, please feel free to do so! Hope to see you all there.
Join foodtrackers today!

I am new to this community, and I don't know if this is allowed or not (if so, please feel free to delete this, mod!), but I thought I'd share since I've had weight problems in the past and had success with this workout product (yes, I'm selling it!).
I used to weight 140+ (not a whole lot, but still overweight for my height), and now i'm back to around 127! success!!

|moropus||12:24 pm - about dieting and hunger|
Hi, I was under the impression for a minute it was for people that need to lose over 40 lbs. but I hit both categories and desperately want to ask a question.
I started dieting somewhere about puberty and kept at it through many ups and downs all those many years. In a fit of insanity, I said screw it, and ate everything that came close for many, many months. I got very fat.
Now we all know we are supposed to eat when we are hungry and only when we are hungry. Trouble is, I've been on so many crazy fads that I've destroyed my appetite.
That is to say, I ignored hunger pains for so many years, I don't get hunger anymore until very late in the afternoon, about 4 pm generally. So I generally skip breakfast eat lunch about 1 pm, and eat supper about 6-7.
Yesterday, I ate oatmeal for breakfast regardless of the fact that I was no hungry and had no interest in it whatsoever, and craved starch all day. I gave in and ate sweets, french fries, pasta, bread you name it, any easily available starch all day long.
If I eat 3 squares a day regardless of how I feel, can I retrain this? My insurance does not cover diet counseling and could care less that my doc and I both wrote in and requested it, on the grounds that it is affecting my health, even a condition they are paying much cash a year to treat.

So yesterday, I did ok. Actually had time for only one real meal - salad with crab meat, two leftover pieces of homemade pizza, and a couple of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Milk, oj and diet soda. Then later, Kyesha's leftover crusts of her pizza and an orange.
No exercise though. I would like to get back into walking, but in the winter that is a little more difficult to schedule. I have been thinking of getting up early, and taking the dogs out for a walk before Rob leaves for work. I need someone here to listen for the little ones to wake up. My daughter has DDR, a dance game, so maybe I will do that today. And, of course, there is the new exercise bike my husband has - I haven't tried it as yet.
And I threw out the rest of the cookies, because I realized that I was the only one eating them. So perhaps that will be a help.
