Hi, I was under the impression for a minute it was for people that need to lose over 40 lbs. but I hit both categories and desperately want to ask a question.

I started dieting somewhere about puberty and kept at it through many ups and downs all those many years. In a fit of insanity, I said screw it, and ate everything that came close for many, many months. I got very fat.

Now we all know we are supposed to eat when we are hungry and only when we are hungry. Trouble is, I've been on so many crazy fads that I've destroyed my appetite.

That is to say, I ignored hunger pains for so many years, I don't get hunger anymore until very late in the afternoon, about 4 pm generally. So I generally skip breakfast eat lunch about 1 pm, and eat supper about 6-7.

Yesterday, I ate oatmeal for breakfast regardless of the fact that I was no hungry and had no interest in it whatsoever, and craved starch all day. I gave in and ate sweets, french fries, pasta, bread you name it, any easily available starch all day long.

If I eat 3 squares a day regardless of how I feel, can I retrain this? My insurance does not cover diet counseling and could care less that my doc and I both wrote in and requested it, on the grounds that it is affecting my health, even a condition they are paying much cash a year to treat.

I just stumbled across this community and saw your question. I know you posted a long time ago, but maybe you still want the answer.

For breakfast you should include some kind of protein and even a little fat with your carbs. Carbs give you start up energy, but the protein keeps you going for the long haul. A few calories of fat will make you feel more full than a huge amount of carbs so don't be afraid to have a piece of bacon or butter your toast.

Your appietite can be retrained. If you throw in a walk every other day or so that will also help. Just don't skip meals, that throws everything out of whack.
